MARE's Pre-Adoption Training
The training sessions are intended for families who may be interested in adopting older children waiting in foster care, and who have LITTLE OR NO EXPERIENCE in raising children from the child welfare system. The training covers why children come into the foster care system; abuse and neglect; understanding hurt children; helping children make transitions; and surviving crisis.
Families who are interested in adopting children from the foster care system are encouraged to attend.
The training and materials are based on the Parents as Tender Healers (PATH) curriculim developed by the National Resource Center of Spaulding for Children in Southfield, MI.
PLEASE NOTE: Due to the high volume of no-shows for our trainings, there is a $25 registration fee per family for the training. The registration fee will be refunded to families who (1) complete the training or (2) cancel 24 hours or more in advance of the training.
The training includes overnight accomodations for those in need on Friday night only, as well as a continential breakfast and lunch on Saturday. Participants must register and pay the registration fee in advance, and receive a confirmation letter in order to attend.
